Russian Troops quit Georgian areas

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Russian troops have pulled out from their self-imposed buffer zones around Georgia’s breakaway
regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia ahead of a Friday deadline. Russia and Georgia both confirmed the move. Now Russian troops are stationed only inside the two independent regions. Moscow plans to keep nearly 8,000 soldiers stationed in the two regions.

The Russians fought a brief war to fight back Georgian troops who were trying to take back South Ossetia by force in August.

Russia’s foreign minister stated that an EU mission monitoring the pull-out would be excluded from both territories

Russia’s move to recognize the two breakaway regions as independent states drew strong condemnation from Georgia and Western leaders.

“Life is Like A box of chocolates”

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Here’s a little essay about a simile that I feel suits my life(English homework)

For my “Life is like a box of chocolates” project I choose my simile to be “Life is like walking down a hallway with many corners.” Similes can have different interceptions from different people, but to me this simile mean that in life, you never know what’s coming up. I think this simile represents me well because I am constantly unsure about what will happen next, or what will “it” be

Exploring Physical Science: The Contraption

Here is my homework, an essay on The Contraption

I thought the Contraption was incredible, I was amazed at how much work and creativness was obviously put into it. The amount of time and effort put into building The Contraption clearly showed, and it was amazing to see that the Contraption was made with mostly normal little household objects. I beleive the biggest motivation for the creators of The Contraption was how regular, little small things can really mkae up, and effect our lives , I also beleive that fun, and a knowledge of science were motivational factors.

There are seven linked matter and energy reactions in the edited Contraption video. First, the alarm rang when the second hand hit the 12 causing the rod to shake and fall, which hit the standing book down, causing the batteries in the paper to roll down into a small paper box connected to an object with a string. The weight of the batteries caused the object to go up and hit the manakin, like a pulley. The manakin swung, hitting CD dominoes, they all knocked down, and the last one hit a book, which fell over hitting something, and that something swung down and hit a ball. the ball rolled down a set track. At the end of the track the ball hit another ball, which fell off the top of the fire place hitting a blue ball, which swung and hit a yellow ball. The yellow ball hit an orange ball, sending it down a tiny set track connected to a little rod at the end. Lastly the rod hit an eject button on a little TV.

I have never seen a type of chain reaction that occured from The Contraption. However I have created something of this type, by setting up a few books like dominoes, then pusing one over. I have also seen a few videos where a long course of dominoes were set up, then one was knocked over, and the rest went in suit as they were hit. I beleive that most things like The Contraption are worth it, but they are a bit time consuming, and although they are fun, you could be doing better things with your time.

Explosion in South Ossetia

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

In South Ossetia a blast killed seven Russian soldiers, and wounded seven Russian soldiers, a Russian commander said.

The blast was from a car bomb which was blown up near a Russian military base in the regional capital, Tskhinvali, local officials said.

Georgia accused Russia of organizing the explosion as an excuse to delay withdrawal of their troops from South Ossetia. But Russia accused Georgia, saying that it was an attempt to sabotage the agreement between the two sides.

A statement made by the South Ossetian breakaway government said that Russia troops had confiscated the vehicle that was blown up from an ethnic Georgian village because the vehicle was carrying weapons.
